Penelope Kate’s Epic Birth Story~All Natural VBAC~

On Monday 3/17 I was scheduled for a NST and bio physical profile ultrasound for being post dates (I was 41w3d). I actually had had a few contractions in the middle of the night, and about 4-5 that morning before I went to L&D for my appointments so I wondered if something might be starting. Ultrasound went great and baby passed with flying colors. Then I went up to L&D to get on the monitors for a bit. I noticed the pressure from my uterus was reading higher at the baseline than it had the Friday prior, and it was picking up some mild contractions. After about 40 minutes, my midwife came in to see me and she looked and agreed that it looked like my uterus was warming up and trying to get going. She checked me, I was…

Sophia Evelyn’s Birth Story

Sophia Evelyn’s Birth Story

Sophia’s due date was 12/21, but I was really afraid she would end up coming on Christmas and wouldn’t have her own special birthday, so I was secretly (or not so secretly) hoping she’d come early. So I started doing a bunch of bouncing on my exercise ball and walking to try and help speed the process up a bit. The day before she was born (12/11) I had done the same, lots of bouncing and walking, and had a feeling she would be coming soon because I felt a ton of pressure down low and figured she was dropping. And I was right! Just shortly after 4:30am on 12/12 I woke up to a big gush. I wasn’t sure what was going on at first but I hurried to the bathroom and when I realized water was gushing out…

Celebrate Coffee with Delicious Recipes!

Powdered creamers really gross me out.  What are they made out of if they are not even dairy!  I found this really cool creamer that not only flavors your coffee, it also keeps you on your health and fitness goals.  They use all natural ingredients like coconut.  Make a cup of coffee for national coffee day and bake some cookies to go with! Leaner Creamer Coffee Sugar Cookies< Ingredients: One cup of softened room temperature butter One and one fourth cups of granulated sugar Two organic eggs One third of a cup of Coffee Three teaspoons of Leaner Creamer One teaspoon of organic vanilla One teaspoon of salt Two cups of organic flour (gluten free flour may be substituted) Half of a teaspoon of baking powder Half of a teaspoon of cinnamon Instructions: In the stand/handheld mixing bowl, mix together butter and…

Furnishing Your Home on a Dime

For many years, it was necessary for me to decorate on a dime. By getting furniture at Goodwill, shopping yard sales, inheriting goods from my parents and above all, by grifting. Never know whatyou’ll find at Goodwill… Grifting. This could well be one of my favorite words. A good friend has grown tired of something and decides, on a whim, to bestow me with it. It’s like a gift… except it’s used… and it’s better than new! Through grifting, I have gotten sofas, chairs, cribs, mattresses, beds, rugs, toys, playhouses, you name it! In fact, if you look through my home carefully, you’ll find an assortment of items that have been grifted to me, some as they are, some transformed through paint or new fabric. As wonderful as it is to spend little to nothing on new decor for my home,…

The Get Away

For a couple of days, they’re both my side of the bed. For the next three days, I’m attending a conference. I just checked into the hotel and I’m feeling a tiny bit ridiculous. I’ve traveled around to some excellent cities for conferences before and this one is in one of my favorite cities, Los Angeles. Exactly 9.6 miles from my house. It took me longer to get the key to my room than it did to drive here. I’m going to order some coffee and get over it. This will be fun.

Healthy Snacks for School

Moms are always looking for great snack options.  Zing sent me some samples to try.  Baby Bear is REALLY picky.  She also gets hangry (hungry + angry) if she doesn’t eat.  I try and try, but she just wants the basics.  This kid used to eat fish, seaweed, and was a fruit monster.  Now…nada.  She is BEGGING me for Zing bars in her lunch for dessert.  I didn’t tell her what they were, she just loves them.  There are a few favorite flavors: Chocolate Mint and Oatmeal Chocolate Chip.  The Chocolate Mint taste like thin mints.  Seriously people, they are amaZing!  Can’t find a shop to buy them in?  Go to Amazon here “The Zing Bar was founded by a group of Seattle dietitians and is deeply rooted in ‘nutrition science’ around blood sugar— by turning the calories we eat into useable energy to…

Visit to Fire Station 423!

We took another trip to the local fire station on Monday. The last time we went was during the March Break. Drew was away with his family at that time, and missed our trip. Since then, fire trucks have become one of his favourite things ever. He calls them “wee-oos” (because of the sound of the siren).   Drew was very shy at first, so I held on to him and we did everything glued to each other. We all climbed aboard the fire truck.   The firefighters are always so great. The protocol for visits is just to drop in during certain hours. You can’t make an appointment. Still, how would you like it if a group of people dropped in to your work and asked you to give them a tour? You might be thrilled some days. But…

Blue Skies

Oh how quickly the pictures do add up, when you are a compulsive photographer! So these were taken a couple of weeks ago, when Amadea and Marcellus’s parents had us over for some more gardening. The last time, they had helped the kids to plant. This time, it was all about picking some vegetables to bring home! We got to pick and take home cucumber, zucchini, green onions, peas, beans and peppers. It really is so nice of them to let my children participate in the gardening experience. I am very grateful for this. The kids also enjoyed eating cherries (not grown in the garden). Here, Amadea instructs Leila how to eat the cherry, but not the pit. 🙂 So, I never talked about Maryam leaving the daycare. She left at the end of June in anticipation of me closing…
